Mount Sinai Ichan School of Medicine
Project: Inquiry to Action Symposium
Client: Mount Sinai’s Icahn School of Medicine / Institute of Health Equity Research (IHER)
Agency Partner: Planthouse Studio Role: Head of Story & Production (July Third)
The Brief: My creative studio, July Third, was tapped by Planthouse Studio to produce a series of vital interview videos for the Mount Sinai IHER annual symposium. The goal was to translate complex, data-driven medical research into urgent, human narratives that support diversity and equity measures in healthcare.
The Approach: As Head of Story and Production, I wore multiple hats to ensure the technical execution served the emotional weight of the subject matter.
Narrative Development: Collaborating with Planthouse’s Rebecca Brooker, we conducted extensive pre-interviews to find the "human heartbeat" within the research. This allowed us to craft a question strategy that moved beyond standard talking points.
Production & Direction: Working with DP Leroy Farrell, we transformed a standard conference room into a cinematic environment. My focus as a director is always on empathy; I prioritize creating a safe, comfortable space for subjects to ignore the lights and equipment and speak from the heart.
Post-Production: I handled the full post-pipeline—editing, sound design, and color. The editing strategy was to match the urgency of the researchers' work, letting their galvanizing energy and the undeniable weight of their data jump off the screen.
